Third Annual Pine Mountain Pulldown
October 8th –October 10th 2010
The bouldering competition takes place Saturday from 9am to 4pm. Maps and boulder problem information will be distributed with your event packet. Check in and packet pickup is Friday from 3 to 9pm and Saturday from 6am to 8am at the Pine Mountain Inn. Please come early to reduce lines and headache.
FORMAT:
We will have approximately 80 boulder problems ranging from V0 to V12 with everything in between. Each boulder problem will have a number and a point value assigned to it. The point value will correlate with the difficulty of the problem. Points are earned by completing a problem from start to finish (must top out or control final hold). The final score is the sum of your 7 highest point problems with a 10-point deduction per fall. We invite you to try as many problems as you want within the division you signed up for. If you complete 3 problems in the division above yours (or 1 problem in two divisions above yours) you will be automatically moved up one division.
DIVISIONS INCLUDE:
Beginner V0 to V2 |
Intermediate V3 to V5 |
Advanced V6 to V8 |
Open V9 to V-hard |
These divisions are Unisex:
Ancient Hard Person (40+ yrs)
Junior (under 13 yrs)
PARKING:
There is parking at the Pine Mountain Inn and at the intersection of Pine Mountain Ridge road and Hwy 33. PLEASE carpool when possible. Park only in the designated area and completely off the paved road, otherwise your car may impede traffic.
BUSSES:
To save your warm up for the boulders and not the 9 mile approach we will be shuttling participants from the Pine Mountain Inn to the top of Pine Mountain Saturday morning and returning Saturday Afternoon.
ALL participants must ride one of the event buses to the competition site. NO ONE will be allowed to drive past the base of Pine Mountain. We will begin loading buses at 8:00am and the first bus will depart from the Pine Mountain Inn once it is loaded. Please board the buses as early as possible so we can start the event as soon as possible.
Bus service will resume at 4:00pm returning people to The Pine Mountain Inn. There will be an hourly shuttle, if needed, during the day running from the Hwy 33/Pine Mountain Ridge Road intersection and the bouldering site.
CHECK IN:
In order to join the festivities and the competition you must first check in and pick up your event packet. Check in and packet pick up is Friday September 11th from 3 to 9pm and Saturday from 6 to 8am. Please come early to reduce lines and headache.
There will be an additional festival only check in on Saturday from 4pm to 6pm.
BOULDERING PADS:
This is a Bring Your Own Pad event so bring one and share the love.
SPECTATORS:
Due to limited space on both the buses and Pine Mountain, everyone planning to attend the bouldering competition must register and pay as a competitor. We invite your friends and family to attend the festival.
CONCESSIONS:
There will be concessions available for purchase during the event. Other than the concessions there is no water or food at the competition site so plan accordingly.
DOGS:
No dogs allowed at this event! Please be respectful of Pine Mountain and the Pine Mountain Inn and leave your animals at home! You will not be allowed to bring them in.
ENVIRONMENTAL:
Pine Mountain is a magical spot high atop the highest mountain in the Ventura/Ojai area that has served as a local bouldering paradise for years. On a larger scale Pine Mountain is one of California’s last bouldering jewels, for the most part still untouched. You would be hard-pressed to find trash or other signs of heavy use here.
The Pine Mountain Pulldown is dedicated to preserving the area and keeping the mountains semi-pristine atmosphere.
Through the US Forest Service permitting process a biological and archaeological review were completed, by the US Forest Service, to establish which bouldering areas are suitable for use. Please do not go into areas that are not shown on the competition map or areas flagged off or signed as closed. In an effort to mitigate erosion, participants will only be permitted to walk on established trails that will be marked. Please do not shortcut. When traveling between the three-bouldering sites you must walk on the road.
Because chalk creates a visual impact on the rock we ask that you use as little chalk as possible. During the Crag Clean Up we will be cleaning chalk, so please don’t make it hard on the volunteers.
Please pay very close attention to anything that could become trash (energy bar wrappers, water bottles, tape, etc). There will be recycling and garbage receptacles at the event but we ask that what you PACK IN you PACK OUT.
After the Saturday night festivities don’t just take off. Help ensure Pine Mountain will remain a bouldering jewel and join us for our Crag Clean Up. Please click here to sign up for the Access Fund Adopt-a-Crag.
